FDM Conservative Political Commentary

Carry a bigger stick:
Carry the truth.

Foamy Dog Magazine - Conservative Political Commentary

Backbones and
Just Because

Nowadays it seems that everyone is offended by something or another and wants to bring it to court. This is getting really old, really fast. Let's face it, this politically correct thing may have started with good intentions but it has gotten way out of hand.

It's time these folks realized that tiptoeing around every little thing to avoid offending anyone, can get to the point of infringing on everyone's freedom. Everyone can't make everyone happy all the time.

Sure, it's a good thing to be nice to folks and to try not to offend anyone but let's not make laws that try to force the issue. Some people just aren't nice and some people are easily offended. It's a fact of life.

Let's live with it.

The not-nice people can be free not to be nice and the offended can be free to tell them off. Maybe it doesn't sound so pretty but at least people will be communicating with people again.

Most recently, we have the case where a California court ruled that the pledge was unconstitutional because of the phrase "under God." Yes, I'm still ranting about this one.

First of all, the First Amendment states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" or as Linda Chavez explains this statement in an article from The Washington Times: "The First Amendment guarantees freedom of religion, not freedom from religion." The separation of church and state idea was to see that the government did not establish an official religion. There is nothing that says that the state cannot acknowledge the existence of a deity.

In fact, this country was clearly founded upon such acknowledgments. For example:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal and that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights."

-- Thomas Jefferson

But this whole affair is just one example of many. This is supposed to be a nation established by The People, for The People. It's high time that The People stand up and say that there are some things in America that are the way the are just because We The People want them that way.

Let's do this thing right; when something like this comes up, let's have The People vote on it. Let's have it put on the ballot, it sure beats the hell out of having a few folks immersed in the system trying to tell us what we want.

It's time to to remind the system that we can think for ourselves and to let them know that we are tired of all the politically correct BS.
