Foamy Dog Magazine - Lessons Learned from the FDNY Statue Controversy

Well I, as everyone else have been watching the craziness in New York lately. First it was how much money families were going to make from the loss of their loved ones. You know the whole bit of one life being worth more than another. Now it's on to the whole statue that is supposed to represent the fallen fire fighters.

The argument comes because the statue is being based upon a picture of 3 fire fighters raising the flag over top of the rubble. In the picture 3 white males are raising the flag. However in the statue they decided to change it to depict 1 white, 1 black and 1 Hispanic. Or in other words they decided to pay tribute to the 3 largest racial communities.

However this is seen as changing history and people want things depicted exactly as they appear.

While you probably think I'm going to go off on how stupid this is, especially the part of "accurately reflecting history". As if you could actually do that. Is their anything that is more subjective? I mean apparently the people living in New York have never heard the saying "history is written by the victors." Just look at the way Americans brutalized the Indians or what the British did to Africa. Yea-accurate depiction, I'll get right on that one.

No I believe they are absolutely correct. They stated that blacks only comprised 2.7 % of the firefighters in New York and 3.2 % Hispanics. Furthermore only 12 of both blacks and Hispanics died in the attack. They are completely right. With those numbers, they don't deserve to be depicted in the memorial.

You know based on completely sound logic coming from the wise people of New York, I mean Hillary Clinton lives there now so they have to be right, I think that all people should only receive their proper representation based up their percentage in the community.

All women should instantly be degraded even further than they are now because men outnumber them. And we shouldn't give a flying fart about any minorities, Including blacks, because they haven't got the numbers yet. Only when they have the numeric power do they deserve respect.

Though I must add that when you do the math. White firefighters lost .0298 % of the white force while blacks lost .0326 and Hispanics lost .0387, but that doesn't matter. Numbers matter and whites lost more than blacks and Hispanics so screw them.

See right and wrong is a variable thing. You're right only if you have enough people to say your right.

My second point deals with the "accurate depiction". See what people are forgetting is that it's art. It's not a 1:1 reproduction. Someone looked at something and created an entirely different piece of art from it.

Now if they had digitally erased the faces off of the firefighters and replaced them with other people. I'd be upset. But they didn't they left that picture alone to accurately represent that moment. Instead they interpreted it into another form in an attempt to represent that the entire community of firefighters were involved.

But like I said earlier, they are completely right. I think we should start a campaign right now to destroy all art that does not exactly copy the thing the artist is drawing. All Impressionism work should be first on the list. Monet especially. His stuff must certainly be destroyed. He even made paintings based upon other paintings that were in themselves not exact copies of the original.

Most of the surreal art must be destroyed; I guess we should move this to movies and even books to. If you made a movie based on a real life event or based upon a book. That movie must be an exact word for word copy of the original. If not it's not an "accurate depiction" therefore it must be destroyed.

I'm sorry I can't continue with this. I'm sorry but this whole thing is completely insane. I've never seen people act more stupidly in along time. I guess it's the whole tell the truth in history crap.

This is not an historical thing. It's a monument so that people can remember their fallen comrades. Instead people who have been oppressed by these P.C. idiots are now looking for a reason to strike back. Unfortunately they are making themselves look even more stupid then their P.C. counterparts. They have been forced to listen to P.C. garbage and now they are responding with their own form of racism. Racist people suck.

I guess I'm also getting a little tired of all this New York is the center of life crap. Yes-bad things happened to New York, yes it's a terrible tragedy, yes we should, and are doing something about it. But for the love of GOD almighty, it's not the only thing going on and no offense it doesn't affect most of your lives at all. I guess I'm just a little tired of this whole media thing. It's like a multi tiered valued system. At the top are New York, L.A. and Chicago. Level 2 is the suburb's of those cities and maybe some other large places like Atlanta and Miami and such. Then the lowest level or, "the sticks", is whatever is left. Unfortunately that is most of the country. Oh well I guess I shouldn't think so much and just do as Ted, Tom, Dan and even Carson tell me.
