Zombies II:
Liberal Attempts to Brainwash America
Commentary from Foamy Dog

This is the second installment in a series of articles examining liberal attempts to brainwash the people of this nation. In part one we looked at some brief examples of media bias; here we look at how bogus statistics and the liberal media work together.

Bogus Statistics

Liberal activists have long used bogus statistics to further their causes. What's worse, the liberal media have bought into them. Why? There are two answers.

First, some journalists simply don't check their sources. They simply take their word as fact. In the news world, this is known as lazy reporting. We see more of this now because of the fierce competition in journalism. Once upon a time, news only came in local newspapers and from the local nightly news. Now we have multiple "all news all the time" networks. Satellite makes even local stations privy to the latest events taking place all over the world. Who wants to check sources and risk loosing the "scoop" to the competition? Who has time to check with stories from everywhere pouring in?

A great example of this is the whole road rage fiasco. Remember when the media was telling us that road rage was growing at such an alarming rate? It never happened.

What really happened was that the media found a hot new phrase for folks getting mad at each other on the highways. "Road Rage!" Has a gripping ring to it doesn't it? Naturally, the media reported more about these occurrences.

Now for the kicker.

The folks over at AAA did a study and reported that the instances of road rage were escalating dramatically. The media took the study, ran with it and started reporting about road rage even more. Did the media ask where AAA got these numbers? Of course not. Well, as it turns out, AAA based its numbers on the number of instances reported by the media.

Now for the second answer: liberal members of the media sometimes tend to accept statistics, without question, that back up their views. Maybe they just want to believe these bogus statistics so badly that they don't want to check.

Case in point: 10% of the population is homosexual? This is widely reported and pretty much accepted in the media as fact.

Wrong again. Bogus. Made up.

The truth is that studies including those conducted by the Planned Parenthood/Alan Guttmacher Institute, the Minnesota Adolescent Health Survey and the U.S Census show that only one to two percent of the population is homosexual.

So where did the 10% figure come from? A badly flawed study conducted in the late 1940's and early 1950's is said to be the source even though the study made no such claim.

Why are these bogus statistics not being challenged? One possible answer lies in the results of a survey conducted by the L.A. Times back in 1985. Three thousand journalists and three thousand people from the general public were surveyed. Twenty three percent of the public said that they were liberals. Fifty five percent of the journalists said that they were liberal.

Go figure.
