TPOMN Bots: Public Opinion Manipulation on the Internet

Yes, Internet robots. This is not science fiction. It is happening. TPOMN is The Public Opinion Manipulation Network, a network of people developing these net bots to pose as human friends, colleagues and informed acquaintances. These bots are designed to be most everywhere online including public chat rooms, message boards and in messenger services such as AIM and ICQ.

These bots are database programs similar in concept to a computer chess game and computer text games such as Zork. They can be given "personalities" and particular points of view. The purpose of the bots is to interact with people online and perpetuate particular social, political and business points of view.

TPOMN requires a network of these bots that seek to create human identities with relationships to the target human individuals or groups. It is a NETWORK of bots acting independently or in concert to achieve certain goals. These bots will have their own URL's and personalities. Theories of social engineering will be used to gain information about who is on-line, their patterns of speech and interpersonal relationships to achieve believable bot actors. Just as the liberal media is using bias in an attempt to ingrain the left's ideals into society, we have a new way, through a new medium, for the infection to spread. This tactic has the potential of an epidemic because the Internet robots can interact with people and can be virtually indistinguishable from another human on-line. This program can be spread much like a virus that evolves by multiples of thousands with a central management and a central purpose: to manipulate public opinion to a desired state of mind.

Our current economy is based on information. The product the economy creates is the delivery of ideas, of processes and the ability to change the way people think . . . These bots may also be used to overwhelm public opinion polls, drastically altering the perceived opinion of the general population. If the bots participate, in on-line poolings or make comments on politically sensitive chat rooms; political operatives may perceive the "public opinion" to be skewed towards the view of the bots. It is even possible for the bots to leave messages to their congressional representatives, who would think they are receiving the opinions of their constituents. . .Emerging artificial intelligence programs that act as interactive bots creates almost infinite possibilities for the misuse and manipulation of these capabilities, which should result in the destruction of the basic trust that we have with digital communication. -NetLogicLab Inc.
